Lying next to the Atacama Desert, the Elqui Valley seems an unlikely spot to grow grapes, but the climate is ideal. The high altitude, plus a cool down draught from the Andes and the Pacific's Humboldt Current keep temperatures cool, while the sunshine is very pure and perfect for ripening grapes. These features also make this remote spot ideal for an observatory. Indeed, just below the award-winning Falernia winery sits one of the world’s largest telescopes. This Gran Reserva, crafted by the talented Italian Giorgio Flessati, was made to celebrate the recent solar eclipse in 2019. To reflect the dark, moonless event, Giorgio blended juicy Carmenère with inky Syrah and a touch of Cabernet. Deep, rich, black fruits mingle with oaky spice.
