As wine writer Max Allen notes, “Cabernet Sauvignon has been grown in the Barossa for well over a century and, from older low yielding vineyards, can make some fabulously concentrated chocolaty wines” (Crush). Even better, because Shiraz from the Barossa is currently much more fashionable, Cabernets tend to be outstanding value. That's certainly true of the 1842 Cabernet Sauvignon, the name of which celebrates the year that settlers first arrived in the Barossa Valley (and coincidentally the year that Sydney officially became a city). Made from premium vineyard grapes, this red is velvety, with nicely chewy tannins and deep, chocolaty, cherry fruit. It goes down a treat with roast meats and is guaranteed to impress at a barbecue too.
