Puglia offers “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson) and “reds that give you a lot of wine for your money” (Decanter), yet even in this context Pillastro Selezione d’Oro stands out. Angelo Maci spares no expense in crafting it, and consequently, among our customers, he has won admirers by the thousand. There are three keys to its success. The winery itself, the Cantine Due Palme, has been ‘Winery of the Year’ for three years in succession – evidence that its standards are top notch. The grapes, from 50 year old vines, are simply the best for miles around. And finally, the wine was aged in French oak to create dense, full flavours of immense complexity. Decant an hour before serving with a rich casserole or a rich pasta dish.
