If you’re looking for a sparkler that’s softer than Champagne, but even better value than Prosecco, you need to taste Valiosa. It’s from one of Spain’s most important winemaking families, who spotted a gap in the market when they heard rumblings of a global Prosecco shortage. Italy’s No.1 sparkler can only be produced within a small, specified region. However, the Solís brothers have no such restrictions in Spain, and so sent a team to Italy to learn the secrets of capturing Prosecco’s trademark soft, rounded fruit. Prosecco’s Glera grape couldn’t cope with the hot Spanish sun, so the team used a blend of crisp Airen and delicate fruit Viura to craft this great value fizz. A top party sparkler or – at this price – a great midweek treat.

"A Prosecco-like sparkler at a price the Italians can’t match – make sure there’s a bottle chilled" Beth Willard
