Tenuta di Somaro 2011

Puglia IGP

With a Gold and 92 Decanter Points, this is a must have Italian red. It's crafted by the super talented Mario Ercolino, who discovered a patch of ancient and forgotten vines in the northern Puglian countryside - in a region better known for olives than grapes. Realising their potential he tracked down the owner and persuaded him to coax them back into production. Between them they christened the vineyard Somaro, after the rare breed of donkeys that once worked the land. Mario is a specialist in southern Italian grapes and is particularly skilled at bringing out their expressive aromas. He matured this wine for six months in small French oak casks to lend even more complexity to the bramble fruit. Enjoy with spicy pasta dishes or casseroles.
