Vasco Martins makes great wines at Casa Santos Lima, but never before have we listed this stellar white. Made from three unique Portuguese grapes that survive on the mid-Atlantic Azores, it's intensely citrusy and mineral fresh with a rich finish.

Critic James Suckling was impressed with this exciting wine, describing it as a "fresh white with aromas of sea salt, lemons, beeswax and chamomile. I like the chalky and ashy mineral notes." It's made from three of Portugal's unique grapes – Arinto dos Açores, Verdelho and Terrantez do Pico – grown on the island's volcanic soils at the base of the volcanic Pico mountain. You can taste that in the wine – a zestiness and minerality – along with a sea-breeze freshness from a constant buffeting from the Atlantic winds. The vineyards lie just metres from the sea, as that's where the land is sunniest. Carefully cool fermented in stainless steel, with a portion in barrel, it's lees stirred to lend a creamy richness to the bright lemon fruit.
