The big château names from the commune of Margaux in the Haut-Médoc cost the earth. However, through the fiancée of a friend we discovered a tiny vineyard, just north of Château Margaux and close to Lascombes, the owner of which was willing to part with a small part of his 2006. Jean-Marc Sauboua went to the property and tasted the small number of barrels and was delighted - fabulous quality of wine, just needed some polishing and a little luxurious ageing in the finest French barrels. JMS cleverly treated each cask of wine differently, to bring out the finest attributes of each, then made the final assemblage. This is a powerful, yet refined and elegant Margaux - a classic. Still needs breathing time. Serve with rare roast beef.
